Past Award Programs

Each year, we sponsor the eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards. The awards program is a peer-nomination process that seeks to recognize those authors who represent the true spirit of the indie publishing community.

The process begins in February of each year when we begin accepting ballots. Ballots are available to all members of the publishing community: authors, editors, proofreaders, designers, formatters, booksellers, librarians, book reviewers, and others. Because this is a peer-nomination program, individuals are prohibited from nominating their own works. We also prohibit “quid pro quo” nominations.

The nomination period ends mid-March. Our team of volunteers then sort through the hundreds of nominations to make sure that they meet the program criteria. We then compile the full list of nominees.

The full list of nominees is announced in May. At this time, our volunteers begin to review the nominees to narrow down each category to five to seven finalists. Our volunteers make their decisions based on the overall presentation of the book AND the author. We look at book blurbs and covers to see if they are professionally done. We read excerpts and previews to make sure the books are well-edited. We read available reviews and visit the author websites to see how the author interacts with readers.

The list of finalists is announced at the beginning of July. At that time, general voting opens up. Voting is open to everyone and we encourage authors to “get out the vote” to share the good news about their book.

The winners and runner-ups are announced on the last day of the eFestival of Words Virtual Book Fair.

Our goal with the program is to share the wonderful range of talent found in the independent publishing community. We hope the program helps readers discover amazing new authors they might have missed out on.
