Book Review: Dear Luke, We Need to Talk, Darth

Dear Luke, We Need to Talk, Darth is an entertaining though uneven look at our cherished pop culture icons. My favorite entry in the collection is Axl Rose’s editor providing feedback on the song “Sweet Child of Mine.” I suspect any writer that has ever worked with an editor will read that one and start nodding (and laughing) at the editorial recommendations.

There are lots of great one-liners that you’ll find yourself repeating (or, in my case, Tweeting) to your friends. The line “I’m coming for you, Glinda. And so is Jesus. And so is pain” is a classic. And there is a reference to a certain alcohol-based calendar that made me almost spit my coffee all over the book.

Not every entry hits the mark. A few fall flat and others seemed like the author was trying too hard to find the right “angle.” but overall, this is an entertaining ride through pop culture.
